Fabric is knowledge.
At Ngande Textiles, we believe that behind every piece of African fabric is the intellectual work, creativity, and cultural expertise of the makers who produced it. We work directly with makers across Africa who build their work from the ground up, sourcing materials, developing techniques, and shaping style through years of practice inside their own workshops. We sell what they make, and we share the history and knowledge systems behind it, so that every piece you hold comes with the story it deserves.
Where It Started
Ngande Textiles was built on a simple belief: that African fabric is not just a product, but the outcome of knowledge passed down through apprenticeship, mentorship, and years of practice inside African workshops. That belief shapes everything we do: the fabric we sell, the courses we teach, and the way we talk about this work.
Through the shop, we support makers directly. Through our courses and this Journal, we share the history and technique behind their craft with a global audience, always alongside the people who hold that knowledge.
We're the Bridge
We're not here to be the center of this story. The makers are. Our role is to be the bridge: connecting you to the workshops, the history, and the craftspeople who hold this knowledge, so that what you learn and what you wear carries their expertise, not a diluted version of it.
Where We're Headed
Ngande Textiles is building toward something larger than a shop or a course. We want to be a lasting connection point between African workshops and a global audience that's genuinely curious about the culture behind the craft, beyond the finished product. As we grow, more of that story will be told by the makers themselves, in their own words, because that's who this has always been about.
Come learn with us. Learn African textiles from the masters, both the intellectuals and the practitioners, and let that twofold knowledge guide the work.
