Back in May, Ngande Textiles launched the African Batik Masterclass, a self-paced course built from real techniques filmed right in Accra. Since then, it’s given students the chance to learn wax resist, dye baths, color layering, and finishing, all on their own time.
However, the self-paced format can’t quite provide students with direct, real-time guidance as they work through a piece. We also want to walk new students through the process: from start to finish.
That’s why we’re opening a second cohort: running September 5th to 26th, and this time, it’s fully live, taught by Zingha Foma.
What will we be covering?
From September 5th to 26th, you’ll join Zingha Foma live on Zoom each week. She’ll teach, demo, and walk through the same core techniques from the Masterclass, but this time, you can show her exactly what you’re working on, ask questions in the moment, and get help exactly when you’re stuck, not days later.
This is four weeks of direct, real-time guidance from start to finish on the piece.
Why We’re Capping It
This cohort is limited to a few people to give each person real attention. We want to continue to work with a small group and guide them from start to finish. A few alumni from the first cohort will also be joining sessions along the way, sharing what they learned and how their own pieces came together.

- Anyone who’s been curious about batik but wanted more structure and accountability than a self-paced course offers
- Anyone who tried working through the Masterclass alone and wants direct feedback on their technique
- Anyone who learns better with a live teacher and a group working alongside them
What You’ll Walk Away With
By the end of the four weeks, you’ll have learned how to make a complete batik piece from start to finish: wax resist, dye, and all. With real-time guidance the whole way through.
