This is our second and last live course of the year.
Most people think of African textiles as something you wear. But African cloth has always done more than clothe the body.
Across the continent, textiles have moved beyond the body and onto the wall, into spaces made for beauty and meaning. That shift, from garment to art object, is its own tradition, with its own history and techniques. It is rarely taught as a subject of its own. This course changes that.
What's included
- Live Lecture 1: African textiles as decorative art. What they are and how they’re made. Includes live Q&A.
- Live Lecture 2: Examples and explorations across the continent, and how these textiles have been used historically and today. Includes live Q&A.
- The Workshop: A full recording of how a batik wall hanging is made in Accra, led by Accra-based makers.
- Both the lecture recordings and the Workshop will remain accessible indefinitely.
